Father’s Day is around the corner. And you still haven’t found the perfect gift. I’m here to help. These gifts are not socks. Nor are they ties. They’re special. Unique. Just like your dad.
Set your dad up to have the best coffee every day
Brewing Gadgets is the UAE’s leading supplier of specialty coffee equipment. They’ve been doing their bit to support the local specialty coffee community for nearly 10 years. And this year, they’re doing their bit to make sure your dad knows you didn’t forget about him.
They know your dad deserves something really special. So Brewing Gadgets have bundled everything he needs to make the best coffee at home. Each bundle contains a gooseneck kettle, a grinder, a scale, a brewer and filter paper. And because they also know every dad loves a good deal, every bundle is available at a 20% discount!
This offer is valid until 30 June 2022 and available on their instagram page.
Teach your dad how to make great coffee
Maybe your dad has all the brewing tools he needs. Does he know how to use them? Buy him a slot in an SCA-certified training program. There are plenty of options.
Notorious has just opened the first SCA-certified coffee training campus in Abu Dhabi. Also in Abu Dhabi, Nooran Albannay regularly hosts training sessions at Coffee Architecture. If your dad prefers the comfort of home, Nooran’s next course will be online (although the Cupping Session will be held at Coffee Architecture). Find more details here.
Put his brewing skills to the test
Now that he’s had the training, put his newly acquired skills to the test.
Seven Fortunes is hosting an awesome spin (see what I did there?) on a brewing competition: The Spin The Brew Throwdown. The winner will join the team on a trip to origin!
Each competitor will have a station to brew their coffee for a panel of judges. They spin a wheel that has illustrations for five different brewing gadgets plus one Judges Choice. And need to brew using the gadget that the pointer stops at. You’ll find more info here.
It all goes down on 30 June 2022 and is open to professionals, enthusiasts and your dad.
Get your dad something that will age as well as him
I’ve loved this brand ever since I met its founders more than 2 years ago at a pop-up they were hosting at Tom & Serg. Noon & Anirban have always had a passion for travel & design. But could never find travel accessories that were the perfect combination functionality and style. And that looked better with age.
So they designed their own. And that’s how Ryokō (which means “Travel – 旅行” in Japanese) was born in 2015.
What started with the Cleveland Bag (perfect for your dad’s trip to origin, by the way) has evolved into a range of handcrafted leather goods from watch straps to wallets to home office accessories. So confident are they of the work of their craftsmen, that all products come with a lifetime warranty. Like your father’s love.
And this Father’s Day, using the code DADSDAY at checkout, will get you a 12% discount on any item.
Teach your dad how to bake
Or you can surprise him with something from left field. A baking class. The rationale is simple. There are very few things that pair better with coffee than freshly baked bread. Plus it will impress your mom.
I wrote an article a while back about Teible. I was not exaggerating when I said it was one of the most exciting new entrants to the Dubai restaurant scene. Open only a for a few months now, Teible has already been nominated by one of the world’s most prestigious restaurant guides, Gault & Milau.
Priding itself on a no-waste, locally sourced approach, Executive Pastry Chef, Sheerin Ghaffar, will bring that philosophy to her Basic Sourdough Bread Class which she will host on Tuesday, 21 June 2022 (yes, that’s Father’s Day), from 10am – 5pm.
Seats are limited so book one now at firstname.lastname@example.org or 04 243 66 83. It’s AED 750 per person which is nothing compared to the emotional and monetary investment your dad has made in you.
So there you have it. Five ideas that are really unique, really special. Like your dad. Enjoy the glow of being the favorite child.
