Connect roasts everything in house. Staff are knowledgable and happy to talk about coffee. Connect now has several locations, but choose the main shop in Pátio de Chôn Sau. It’s tucked into one of the small lanes just below the Ruins of St. Paul’s, convenient when you’re exploring Macau’s historic centre.
Koki Koffee

Koki is a tiny coffee stand in historic Lilau Square serving beans from Macau’s Mute Roaster. It has a strong following among local coffee drinkers, particularly for its single origin coffees. Mute is also known as one of the city’s better local roasters. The setting is part of the appeal. Order at the small window, then take your coffee to one of the benches around the square. If you want good local coffee somewhere that feels distinctly Macau, Koki is the spot.

It’s the kind of place you go to specifically for the coffee rather than the surroundings. Trek roasts out of a small Lam Mau shop and what you’ll enjoy most about them is their approach to bean selection. There’s now another Trek space near St. Lazarus, but go to Lam Mau. It’s the original roastery where it all started.
Blooom Coffee House

Blooom helped start Macau’s specialty coffee scene. Keith Fong founded the business in 2010 and began roasting when specialty coffee was still new to the city. Go to the flagship beside Quei Tsai Un Market rather than the Lisboeta branch. You get the coffee, but also you’ll be in one of Macau’s older neighbourhoods.

Single Origin was created by Blooom founder Keith Fong as a coffee bar that focuses on exactly that, single origin coffee, pour over and espresso. The small two-storey shop has the bar downstairs. Tell them what flavours you like, and let the barista choose the bean as well as how to brew it.

MOMOKAWA takes a more playful approach to specialty coffee. You can build your own blend and the menu moves beyond conventional espresso and filter with drinks such as a shiso and yuzu espresso tonic. The restrained, Japanese influenced spaces are managed experienced baristas who encourage customers to explore rather than simply order their usual drink. If you like experimenting with coffee, this is one of the more interesting stops in Macau.

Rethink has been part of Macau’s specialty coffee scene since 2015 and now has several locations, including Lisboeta and Broadway Macau. Choose a branch based on where you are rather than travel across Macau for a particular one.
Brew Lab Coffee

Inspired by Melbourne coffee culture, Brew Lab is one of the more interesting café spaces in central Macau. The three-storey shop serves single origin and pour over coffee alongside more experimental signature drinks, with a rooftop overlooking the surrounding old streets. Great spot if you’re around Senado Square and the historic centre.
3345 Coffee & Vinyl
Coloane
3345 is as good as a reason as any to travel to Coloane for coffee. It roasts its own beans, devotes ground floor to coffee and uses upstairs as a vinyl listening space. Once you have your cup, head upstairs and browse the records before continuing through Coloane Village.
EMDEWBLEU
Macau
EMDEWBLEU is one of the newer names in Macau specialty coffee, but co-founder Wesley is already part of the city’s serious coffee community. Try one of the unusually ambitious signatures, like Triple Citron Cadence which combines cold brew with citrus and soda, or Pastel de Nata which uses real egg yolk. The one to go to if you’re visiting Lisboeta.

Monday Struggle is one of those Macau coffee shops that other coffee people recommend. Local baristas specifically point to the quality of its roasts. But there’s another reason to visit, though. Monday Struggle also makes its own gelato.
How I’d explore specialty coffee in Macau
If it’s your first visit, concentrate on the Macau Peninsula. Connect, Mute/Koki, DOSE, Trek, Blooom and Single Origin will give you the strongest introduction to the city’s specialty coffee culture. More importantly, they show different parts of it: established roasting, newer independent roasters, single origin specialists and the smaller businesses that local enthusiasts follow.
Give MOMOKAWA its own trip north rather than forcing it into a central Macau walking route.
When you cross to Taipa, make Lamgo the priority. Rethink is the move depending on where you’re staying, particularly around NAPE and Cotai.
And don’t ignore Coloane. 3345 is a legitimate coffee reason to spend time there.
If I had time for only three, go to Connect, Mute/Koki and DOSE.
With five, I’d add Trek and Lamgo.
